About my Books.

I’ve always been ready to conquer the world. When I was 17, I was going to move out of St. Louis, go to college in Los Angeles and learn to be a writer and filmmaker – and I’ve done all those things! It’s not always been easy, though. Sometimes I feel ready to fly, but as much as I strain to move, my shoes are stuck in mud, leaving me rooted to the spot. In recent years, that’s been because I’ve been waiting for permission instead of giving myself approval and running full force. I’ve solved that problem.

But when I was 17, the only thing I felt stopping me was my age. Which was so stupid! I had already dealt with friends who spread rumors or took advantage of my kindness and teachers who gave me bad grades for being absent from school because I was a contestant on Jeopardy!; I’d strayed from the group on an orchestra trip to explore Toronto on my own, and kept secrets about a friend’s sexuality even under questioning from others. There wasn’t anything life could throw at me that I wouldn’t be able to handle – even murder or storming a castle or hearing the voice of God or finding a portal to another reality. So that’s what I give to my characters. And how they handle it? You’ll have to read to find out…
