Definitely Not Anymore

A failed artist and her colleague from hell – who are both in other relationships – fall for each other during the whirlwind week of Passover. It's a story about family, following your passion, and fish (gefilte or otherwise).

DEFINITELY NOT ANYMORE is inspired by the love story of my Great-aunt Maxine and Great-uncle Carney.

I first heard about their improbable, whirlwind romance after Aunt Maxine’s death, when my mom’s cousins (Maxine and Carney’s kids) sent her an “autobiography” that Aunt Maxine had written.

Over the course of three handwritten pages, she laid out their love story, which took place over the course of a week and involved them going from impersonal colleagues to friends, to lovers, to marrying in secret. And yes, both of their significant others were on vacation when this happened. After reading it, I immediately knew I had to turn their story into a film. So I moved the action into the present day, added the chaos of Passover, some quirky best friends and all 4 of Maxine’s siblings (including a character based on my grandma), and gave Maxine an all-too-relatable passion for art and the insecurities that come along with it.

In October of 2020, it was honored as one of the second-round screenplay in the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.
